The CTM-500 uses external antennas for cellular, Wi-Fi and GNSS. If the CTM-500 is mounted with a clear view of the sky, a single connection point to the vehicle is all that is needed between the device and the OBDII or J1939 port of the vehicle.
The most effective installation method we recommend is to connect the CTM-500 to power via the vehicle’s OBDII or J1939, place the CTM-500 on the dashboard, under the seat, on the window, or any other suitable position, and attach the external antenna to a window. This installation can be completed in roughly five minutes with the wires hidden.

The CAN interface is primarily utilized to connect to vehicle subsystems that support CAN communications. This includes small and light-duty vehicles manufactured in 2008 and later (ISO 15765-4), as well as heavy-duty vehicles that are compatible with J1939 protocol.
To interface with a vehicle's Engine Control Unit (ECU), an accessory OBDII or J1939 cable is necessary. The CTM-500 can be powered directly from the CAN port, eliminating the need for additional cabling if the vehicle supports OBDII or J1939 communications.
The CTM-500 supports both medium and high-speed CAN interfaces, as well as single wire CAN.
